Behind the design: new season scents
We take an exclusive peak behind the design of our new home fragrance collection with our in-house team.
Did you know that we design every one of our Sainsbury’s Home candles in house? Our talented team are a passionate bunch who work tirelessly each season to create the perfect fragrance blends. We took a step behind the scenes to catch up with them and see exactly what goes into crafting the perfect fragrance.
“Sainsbury’s candles are crafted with a lot of love and attention to detail. We design each one entirely in house, where our designers and fragrance experts work together every season to develop the newest selection.”
“We start by working on the exterior of the candle, designing the different prints and patterns that will go into the jar and packaging, and choosing an individual feel for each one. We’re inspired by trips, fine fragrance and what’s in this season, whether it’s just a swatch of material or an entire colour palette.”
“Once we’ve decided on a design for each candle, we work together with the fragrance houses to come up with our dream scent. This is definitely one of the most exciting parts. When our scent options are ready, we get to smell them all and choose the right one. This whole process can take as long as 12 months to complete because we’re so thorough in our testing, that perfecting the exact combination of notes we want can take time.”
“Our autumn and winter collection is filled with a sublime range of different scents. There’s something for everyone. For this time of year, you should choose something bright and crisp as you transition from those summer florals into more autumnal notes. Our Fig Leaf and Elderberry fragrance is uplifting and inviting, perfect for lighting at the start of November and sitting in your front room to welcome guests.”
“If you want to get that proper cosy fall feel, our favourite is Applewood and Clove. We blended notes of cedar, rich amber, pepper fusion, cinnamon bark and nutmeg to create a woody scent that reminds you of long country walks as the leaves begin to fall.”
“As we move into December and January, we know our customers will be snuggling up and wanting a fragrance that suits. Winter is a fresh and subtle fragrance that has ambiances of frosted florals nestled under Christmas snow. With sparkling hints of citrus on the base, it’s perfect if you want a candle for this time of year but you’re prefer something not too sweet.”
“Out of all the fragrances we created for this season, our Festivity scent, Christmas Cinnamon & Clove was definitely the hardest to perfect. It’s a warm spicy scent with fragrance notes of cinnamon, cloves, warming gingerbread and citrus, that evokes the cosy feeling you get leading up to the holidays. It’s our biggest scent of the year and it’s so important to us that from the very first smell to the last, it smells just like Christmas.”
