Mother’s Day breakfast in bed
Lifestyle blogger Fritha Quinn (aka Tigerlilly Quinn) tells us how her two little ones threw a special Mother’s Day treat
Hi! Fritha here from lifestyle blog Tigerlilly Quinn. Over the weekend me and the kids had a trial Mother’s Day morning where (with the help of my husband) my two little ones whipped up a delicious breakfast and delivered it to me in bed.
Cooking with kids can be pretty messy and even a little stressful but I think if you just throw yourself into it, it’s a great activity to do together and I try and do something like this with them at least once a week.
The biggest tip for cooking with little-ys – other than expecting (and being at peace with) the amount of mess – is planning ahead. If I don’t have all the ingredients laid out before we start, I know my toddler will be dipping her hand in the sugar bowl whilst I’m hunting for the flour. Preparation is key. As well as that, I think acknowledging that everything is going to take at least twice as long is another good place to start.
My six and two year olds helped make me some pancakes to bring to me in bed and when I asked them for their tips, my toddler told me her favourite part was eating the mix. I feel like licking the spoons and bowls play a big part in cooking with kids. Wilf’s top tip is to always wash your hands before you start and to make sure you’re making something extra-yummy.
The kids brought me up my pancakes and fruit with extra forks for themselves so we could all tuck in. Such a treat! If you want to see how we set up our bedroom using the Sainsbury’s Helsinki range then click here.
Thanks so much for reading, I’d love to know if you cook with your kids and if you have any tips to share.
