A very British holiday with Charlotte Jacklin

The podcaster-come-blogger shows us why British beach holidays are making a comeback

Bournemouth, Blackpool, Brighton… move over Bahamas, the humble British beach holiday is having a revival and our suitably peppy picnicware makes the perfect accompaniment. Charlotte Jacklin of Betty Magazine (and former Margate local) took to the seaside to show us how to hit UK beaches in style.

Not only is it cheaper but holidaying at home can be stylish too. Hipster hotels, brunch cafés, art galleries galore… you can make a whole week of it just by exploring the lanes in Brighton and taking a cheeky trip to the countryside. Our picnic essentials cover all occasions, from the basics – like cool bags and travel cups – to portable BBQs for an impromptu evening on the beach. They come in a mix of shades too for all the style-conscious out there.

Just because you’re spending summer in Blighty doesn’t mean your summer’s destined to be 50 shades of grey. Colour yourself happy with poppy brights and block pastels that’ll take your picnic gear up a notch. From colourful zig zag cool bags like this one to the seriously stylish tie dye blue one in our summer ranges, there’s plenty to choose from.

Don’t be afraid of bright colours. Nothing says summer holiday more than lots of fun colour pops. A cool bag is an essential… I love the Fiesta one so much, I now have two.” – Charlotte

When you think of a UK holiday, you’d be forgiven for picturing blustering winds, high tides and red noses but the heatwave is set to stay (we can’t quite believe it either) so let’s raise a glass to summer. And whatever your style is, we’ve got a glass to match – speckled with gold, millennial pink or these these pretty party ones Charlotte went for.

“Make an occasion of it. It involves a bit of preparation but it’s worth packing the extra special items such as tea light holders, tepees, cutlery and trays to serve your drinks on.” – Charlotte

Who doesn’t love a good old sports day? The current trend we’re crushing on is retro games and we can’t get enough of these cute designs. Bat and ball, skipping ropes, giant inflatables, hula hoops – they’re the perfect pastime to keep you entertained in-between glasses of Pimm’s and sunbathing. Bring along a pop up tepee for half time so you can seek shade in style.

“Bring games to play with and even prizes for the winners. I spent so long playing with this bat and ball, and had so much fun!” – Charlotte

This food cover is not only great to look at it, but it’s also is really practical. Going that extra mile will make for a fun day out. And eating less sand can only be a good thing, surely?” – Charlotte.

We couldn’t agree more. If you’re planning a last minute trip to the seaside, check out our choice of picnicware in a store near you.
