Get the look: Newstalgia

Retro style, without the hefty price tag

For our latest collection, our design team were inspired by the Sainsbury’s archives to give retro a revival. And if you’re a lover of Mad Men-style offices or Art Nouveau prints, this look is just for you. Here’s how to get it…

Ceramics

Let’s start with this de-bossed vase. It’s got those mid-century contours and geometric shapes that are so iconic of the 60s but in a fresh matte grey, it’s given a modern lift. Pair with some retro-style flowers like craspedia and voila!

Print

An essential for the retro look is a repeat print. Style tip: whether its’ Art Nouveau or psychedelic, make sure it’s packed full of colour. A framed print or a few clustered together will give maximum impact. Or if you want to try something a bit more subtle, a ceramic candle with a little bit of pattern on the side will do the job nicely.

When it comes to palette, it’s all about clashing your colours. Pinks, browns and mustard are a match made in heaven. But if you want to want to achieve that jet-age decor glam look instead, opt for steely pale blue and apricot orange.
