Sainsbury’s Six: Halloween at home
Put the ‘oo’ in spooky and celebrate this season in style.
Whether you’re throwing a spooky shindig for family and friends, or simply pumpkin carving in the kitchen, get your home ready with our top must-do’s for hosting Halloween.
Throwing the annual Halloween party needn’t fill you with dread. Create treat stations for the little ones (turned over boxes are the perfect kid-friendly height) and a cobweb-covered buffet for the adults, to keep everyone occupied. A few cleverly-positioned letter lights and some orange balloons will give your space that all-important haunted house vibe in an instant.
Pumpkin carving is the ultimate Halloween activity and the first sign you’re celebrating this year. Pick up a handy kit to make crafting your own Jack-o’-lantern easy; or, if you’re not the artsy type, enjoy a seasonal soup or roast pumpkin soufflé instead – delicious.
Hosting Halloween at home is all about nailing those little surprise details. Cobwebs in the corners (we recommend the faux stuff or simply not dusting), skull light garlands arranged around your fireplace hearth and a few frightful friends where your guests wouldn’t expect them. It’s all about having fun with decorating, whether it’s a raven on the back of a chair or a scary doll’s head in the cutlery drawer.
Trade in hours of trick or treating for family games in the comfort (and cosiness) of your living room. Create a pumpkin piñata using a round paper lampshade and sweeties, throw a creepy-crawly treasure hunt or pin the ‘boo’ on the ghost, and enjoy being at home this Halloween.
