  1. From Mad Men style to 1930s chic – this season’s must-have design icons

    Design classics

In the ever-evolving, experimental world of interiors there are certain designs that just never seem to grow old. Read on to discover the inspiration behind the classic pieces in our spring/summer range, available in selected stores now.

    1940s film noir

    Brass Effect Case Clock, £20

For a slick 50s style even Don Draper would approve of, opt for a bold, brass clock. Functional and fashionable, it’s an ideal fit for dining rooms or studies. Scotch on the rocks, anyone?

    1940s film noir

    Black Spotlight Tripod, £25

For a modern take on a vintage style, opt for a tripod floor lamp. Inspired by the classic cinema style lamp, it’s perfect for channelling the feel of a 1940s Hitchcock film.

    Ancient luxe

Large Black with Gold Effect Metal Bowl, £12

The ancient Egyptians were gold-hammering 5,000 years ago, so it’s hard to get a more long-lasting look than this one. And with black and gold being all the rage on the spring/summer 2015 catwalk, it’s still bang on-trend.

    1930s style

    Amber Glass Faceted Vase, £12

Add period drama style to your home with this faceted vase, which takes inspiration from the amber glassware trend of the 1930s.

    Romance

    Large Taper Lantern, £30

Conjuring images of horse and carriages travelling through the night, lanterns are hands-down the most romantic lighting. Suspend one or two outside for al fresco dining that last well into the night.

  2. Create that on-holiday feel at home

    Island life

The warmer months are finally here and we’re swapping the sofa for our beach towels – think deep azure blues, whitewashed beach huts and exotic patterns. But it’s easy to bring a little bit of that holiday zest into your home. Here’s how to work modern coastal style.

    Homeware for the bathroom

    All washed out

Freshen up your bathroom with a palette of cobalt blues and citrus greens, while bold stripes and fish motifs bring the essence of a Greek island holiday to bathtime. Add simple, whitewashed accessories like lanterns and rustic baskets to create a serene feeling – perfect for ‘me time’.

    1. Aqua Tumbler, £5 | 2. Eggshell Blue Sea Turtle Bath Mat, £12

    Taste the summer

    Painterly prints

Crockery brushed with Mediterranean blues can quickly brighten up the dining table. Mismatch highball glassware with printed plates for a carefree style that’s reflective of hazy days where only bright salads and exotic fruits are on the menu.

  3. Don’t forget about Dad!

For the man who has everything

As the gifting buyer I spend my day thinking up great gift ideas, so everyone can find the perfect treat for their loved one when they come in store. I know finding the right gift for Father’s Day can be particularly tricky; how do you find something they will enjoy, don’t already have and shows how much you care about them?

    Breakfast on a tray

    It’s the little things

Sometimes a simple gesture like breakfast in bed is the best way to show your dad that you care. Top it off with a ‘Dad Can’ mug full of tea to really make his day.

    Father's Day gifts

    Just the ticket

My absolute favourite gifts this year are the Dad’s Retreat shed style plaque, £4 , and Grandad’s Shed plaque, £4, while this fun travel mug, £5, is great for taking to work. If your dad likes a little healthy competition (and really, whose doesn’t?) then the dad test – wooden and metal puzzles box, £8 will go down a storm. Then you can celebrate his win with his favourite tipple in a beer tankard with etched text, £5.

  4. Dips with a difference…

The weather’s turned warm which means two things – barbecues and al fresco dining. And nothing keeps guests happy while the barbecue heats up like delicious dips to tuck into. Below are two of my favourite recipes. Serve up in Sainsbury’s selection of nibble bowls, and guests will be doubly impressed.

    Zesty avocado dip

    A crowd pleaser

Combine an avocado with sour cream, lime juice, fresh coriander, a pinch of salt and a couple of dashes of Tabasco sauce. Adjust the seasoning to taste, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with black pepper. To complement this dip’s subtle style, serve in printed Mono Dip Bowls. Not only do they look like they’ve been plucked from a Mediterranean dining table, but they’re made from melamine, so are suitably hardwearing for outdoor dining.

    Spicy pepper dip

    Turn up the heat

Put half a jar of sundried peppers, feta cheese, greek yogurt and a little sweet paprika and salt in a food processor and blitz. Taste and adjust the seasoning and serve, sprinkled with fresh chopped chives. Take it one step further and make your own tortilla chips. Simply brush some tortillas with a little oil and slice into wedges. Sprinkle with salt and paprika and bake for 5 minutes on each side.
